PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government ensures that law enforcement against the felling of 35 trees in four locations will continue until completion.

Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan said the investigation was conducted to uncover possible links between logging and commercial and development interests.

"Today, I will focus on Cijerah first, as there is no solution yet. I will go directly to Cijerah at 1:00 PM. After that, we will ensure that all enforcement of the Regional Regulation regarding the felling of these 35 trees is completed," said Farhan at Bandung City Hall on Tuesday (August 11, 2026).

Farhan emphasized that the handling process does not stop at imposing sanctions, but must reveal the background and the parties responsible.

"If it's not this, it's not a matter of sanctions. The sanctions are light. But the resolution must be complete," he said.

The investigation also traced indications of commercial interests suspected to be related to a number of tree felling cases in Bandung City.

"That's what's currently being investigated. As far as I'm concerned, there are indications. These indications should be documented in a police report (BAP), an investigation report. This is what we're all working towards," he said.

The Bandung City Government is intensifying its investigation into tree felling on Jalan RE Martadinata, Dago, Sorang Galing, and other locations.

"We will investigate this further. Especially in Dago, not just in Dago but also in Sorang Galing," said Farhan.

Farhan gave the example of tree felling on Jalan Riau which was allegedly related to the installation of videotrons for commercial purposes.

"If, like in Riau, there is a proven link between tree cutting and videotrons, we will seal the videotrons," he stressed.

According to Farhan, this suspicion was strengthened by the contractor's confession in the examination report which stated that the deductions were made on his own initiative.

"He said no one asked me to, and it was my own initiative. So, that's it," he said.

The internal audit also targeted government officials related to the logging location, from department heads, village heads, sub-district heads, to mayors.

"Heads of departments, village heads, sub-district heads, and even the mayor were questioned. To confirm," he said.

Farhan said the inspection was being carried out in stages and the Inspectorate would submit updated results next week.

The Bandung City Government ensures that the handling of the 35 trees will reveal all the facts, including the possibility of development or commercial interests.

"The important thing is that the solution must be complete," he concluded.
