PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Before the Modern Government, How Did Sundanese People Organize Their Social Life?
"Sundanese social and legal systems are traces of civilization that remain relevant today," said Hazmirullah, a philology expert from the Pikiran Rakyat Institute in a webinar held by the West Java Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM) on Thursday (1/10/2026).
This trail was discussed in the Maca Babarengan Sundanese Encyclopedia Series 6 webinar with the theme 'Social, Community, and Sundanese Law' with Hazmirullah, a Philology Expert from the Pikiran Rakyat Institute.
In his presentation, Hazmirullah also reviewed the development of Sundanese society from the concept of wanua and character,
"Until the formation of umbulan, babakan, lembur, and kampung. Changes in settlement patterns also shaped the social life of the people of West Java," he explained.
The value of togetherness is also an important part of Sundanese life, through mutual cooperation and the concept of Tritangtu which is reflected in the principles of silih asah, silih asih, and silih asuh.
"There are traces of legal systems traced through the Cicatih Inscription, the Kabantenan Inscription, and a number of ancient Sundanese manuscripts," he explained.
The collaboration between BPSDM and BP2D of West Java Province seeks to bring back Sundanese history and local wisdom, as knowledge that is relevant to social life and community values to this day.
