PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government continues its investment in providing raw water from the Saguling and Cirata Reservoirs to increase piped water services to 40 percent (29/6/2026).

Mayor Muhammad Farhan said the project is designed to supply up to 3,500 liters of raw water per second to meet community needs.

"We are continuing discussions on investment in the construction of a 3,500-liter-per-second pipeline from Saguling and Cirata to Bandung City. Everything is ready, but as of today, we have not received approval from Indonesia Power," said Farhan.

Farhan explained that the discussions were still facing technical obstacles because water availability could decrease during the dry season.

"During the dry season, if there's not enough water at Indonesia Power (Saguling), we won't be able to get water. So, that's still a technical discussion, and it's not easy at all," he said.

The Bandung City Government is also developing a water distillation or filtration system for the Cikapundung River to meet the community's non-consumption clean water needs.

"The Cikapundung River water will be used as clean water for non-consumption purposes, such as for cleaning, bathing, and so on," explained Farhan.

Farhan said that the current coverage of piped water services is around 38 percent and is targeted to increase to 40 percent gradually.

According to him, the gradual increase was chosen because Bandung City does not have its own raw water source and still relies on supplies from other regions.

"Right now, we're still aiming for 40 percent, from 38 percent to 40 percent. Why can't we go straight to 100 percent? Because the raw water source in Bandung City is no longer available. We buy everything from the province and districts," he said.

The Bandung City Government also succeeded in reducing water loss from 40 percent to 37 percent through network improvements with partners and support from the Japanese Government.
