PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Deputy Mayor of Bandung, Erwin emphasized the government's commitment to supporting efforts to eradicate illiteracy of the Qur'an in Bandung City. This program must run systematically and not just discourse.
"We don't want this to just be a plan without realization. If there is an effective method and it is developed by Bandung residents themselves, of course we must fully support it," said Kang Erwin during a gathering with the Majelis Taklim Working Group (KKMT) at the Bandung City Hall, Friday, March 7, 2025.
Erwin ensured that the Bandung City Government is trying to coordinate with the Ministry of Religion.
"With synergy, the Bandung City Government and the Ministry of Religion are expected to accelerate the eradication of illiteracy in the Al-Quran in the city of Bandung," he said.
On that occasion, KKMT proposed the Alghani method as the main approach in the Main Mengaji Movement.
The Head of KKMT Bandung City, Kamal explained that this method has been developed by experts from Bandung and has great potential in helping people learn to read and write the Qur'an.
"We want the method that was born in Bandung to be applied in this city. Don't let the method from outside be more accepted," said Kamal.
In addition, KKMT also highlighted the main challenge in this program, namely the absence of valid data on residents who cannot read the Qur'an.
Therefore, KKMT suggests that the initial step be data collection through sub-district heads to RT/RW so that the program can run more focused.
Rifa, the administrator of KKMT Gedebage, added that Alghani's method is a valuable asset for Bandung if it can be successfully implemented widely.
"Bandung should be proud to have its own Quran reading and writing method (alghani method)," he said. (Bandung City Communications and Information Service/Fauziah)
