PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government inaugurated the Sisi Walungan Cikapundung Cikalapa (Cika Cika) Market as a new culinary destination and creative economic space that is integrated with the ecological management of the river area.

Located on Jalan Dago Pojok, Tanggulan Cikalapa, RT 04 RW 03, Dago Village, Coblong District, this market offers a culinary atmosphere typical of the banks of the Cikapundung River.

In addition to serving a variety of traditional foods, this area also displays the work of local MSMEs, including handicrafts from local residents.

The arrangement of the area is part of the Cikapundung River revitalization program which is oriented towards balancing ecological functions, public spaces, and empowering the economy of residents.

"This program provides dual benefits. From the environmental side, we are rearranging the river boundaries to be greener and more open. From the community side, this area becomes a new business space that encourages the growth of the micro economy," said the Mayor of Bandung in his inauguration speech, Tuesday (4/22/2025).

He added that the revitalization of the Cika Cika area is also part of the transformation of the city's spatial planning to be more adaptive and attractive to tourists.

"This place used to be poorly organized. Now, we have made it a multifunctional public space that is environmentally friendly and has great potential as a new destination for the city of Bandung," he said.

The Head of the Bandung City Water Resources and Highways Agency said that this market will be managed in a measured and sustainable manner.

"The public's enthusiasm is already visible. If visits are crowded, we will implement a quota system to maintain environmental carrying capacity," he said.

He explained that this area presents traditional snacks and local products with a zero waste approach and a restorative economic concept.

"This market not only sells food, but also becomes a space for empowerment. Local residents are directly involved, both in food production and crafts. This is a form of environmental movement as well as strengthening the local economy," he explained.

Overall, the area reaches 474 square meters, with the main arrangement of 275 square meters. The arrangement is equipped with organic waste processing facilities, maggot houses, and a greening area in the form of 100 square meters of grass and planting 50 Helekonia banana seedlings.

Sisi Walungan Cika Cika Market is one of the real proofs that environmental preservation can go hand in hand with economic growth and comfort of urban space. (Bandung City Communication and Information Service/Fauziah)
