PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government apologized for the traffic jams caused by the construction of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and ensured that the project would continue to be monitored until completion.

Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan said that traffic congestion complaints had been detected since August 14, 2026, and were now being addressed with relevant parties.

"I received a written report. We've been detecting these traffic congestion complaints since August 14th. The contractor offered various excuses, but to me, those aren't excuses. The most important thing is how this BRT can truly benefit Bandung residents," Farhan said on August 21, 2026.

Farhan acknowledged that the BRT construction still creates negative perceptions due to its impact on traffic flow on a number of roads.

"I sincerely apologize for causing traffic jams, but I will ensure the work is carried out quickly, neatly, and without accidents," he said.

The Bandung City Transportation Agency is carrying out improvements to the sidewalks and road medians that are part of the BRT corridor.

Farhan requested that the work be completed quickly and neatly while prioritizing the safety of road users.

"I sincerely apologize for causing traffic jams, but I will ensure the work is carried out quickly, neatly, and without accidents," he said.

The complete construction of the BRT system is targeted for completion in 2027 so that the service can be fully operational without further construction work disrupting traffic.

The main BRT corridor will connect Bandung Square, Jalan Sudirman, Rajawali, Bandung Station, Otista, Tegalega, and back to the city center.

Other corridors connect Alun-alun, Banceuy, Ahmad Yani, Kiaracondong, Jalan Jakarta, Simpang Lima, Asia Afrika, to Alun-alun Bandung.

A number of these sections will be equipped with dedicated lanes and separators to provide priority movement for the BRT fleet.

Farhan encouraged the public and the media to monitor development and report congestion or service issues through government channels.

"If you encounter traffic jams or other unsatisfactory issues, report them immediately. You can call 112 or use social media. Journalists are also welcome to monitor the situation. We need the public's help to ensure this BRT development benefits everyone," he said.

Farhan emphasized that the BRT development is part of Bandung City's long-term mass transportation plan.

"Because there's another dream, the LRT. But that's for later. Right now, we're focused on ensuring the BRT runs smoothly and that the public feels its benefits," he said.
