PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan supports the construction of special access to the Jelekong Final Processing Site in Bandung Regency (28/2/2026) as a solution for processing around 1,500 tons of waste per day from his area.
Farhan expressed his support while accompanying the Minister of Environment of the Republic of Indonesia, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, to inspect the former Jelekong Final Processing Site.
He assessed that land is available, but road access is key to ensuring effective waste management in the Greater Bandung area.
"The land is there, but access must be fought for. It must be fought for," said Farhan.
Farhan opened up the option of joint financing with the Bandung Regency Government to build a new road from Kilometer 151 directly to the location.
"If we pool our resources to build an access road here, both Bandung City and Bandung Regency will definitely benefit. The benefits are clear," he said.
Data shows that Bandung City produces around 1,500 tons of waste per day, while Bandung Regency produces 1,800 tons per day, bringing the total to nearly 3,300 tons per day.
Around 80 percent of this waste is still managed using an open dumping system, thus requiring changes to the processing system.
Farhan emphasized that developing access will accelerate investment and the implementation of more environmentally friendly processing technologies.
The Minister of Environment of the Republic of Indonesia, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, explained that the physical construction of access falls under the authority of the Ministry of Public Works after the technical design and land acquisition have been prepared by the regional government.
"If access is assigned to the Minister of Public Works to drive development, what will be needed is design and land acquisition. As for the physical construction, I don't think there will be any issues," said Hanif.
The plan is expected to be a long-term solution for more controlled waste management and have a direct impact on environmental cleanliness for residents. (Bandung City Communications and Information Service/bhf)
