PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan launched the "City Sweep" movement by requiring civil servants, sub-district heads, and village heads to go directly to clean up trash in response to the increase in waste generation of around 20 percent that residents are starting to feel (13/4/2026).
Farhan conveyed these steps when handing over waste management equipment to representatives of sub-district heads at the Bandung City Hall Plaza.
He assessed that the waste problem in Bandung City has become a serious concern because it has a direct impact on environmental cleanliness and public health.
"This is our collective responsibility. We can't rely solely on the Environmental Agency. Everyone must take action," Farhan stressed.
The Bandung City Government has scheduled the “City Sweep” movement to begin on April 19, 2026 and will be held every Sunday from 4:00 AM until finished.
This program aims to strengthen the work of street sweepers while ensuring a clean city environment from early morning.
Farhan also asked sub-district heads and village heads to actively lead waste management in their respective areas.
He reminded the cleaning staff and field supervisors to work according to the established service standards.
"If you do not meet the established work standards, you will be immediately dismissed," said Farhan.
Farhan emphasized that the equipment distributed was only a tool, so the main change must start with people's habits in managing waste.
He invited residents to get used to cleaning, sorting, and processing waste from home.
"No waste can be processed without sorting. So it all has to start with us," said Farhan.
