PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan ordered the regulation of street vendors (PKL) occupying sidewalks as part of the arrangement and beautification of 17 roads so that public spaces are comfortable again for pedestrians (13/4/2026).

Farhan delivered these instructions while leading a roll call at the Bandung City Hall Plaza.

He explained that the city government had prepared a budget and manpower to repair roads and sidewalks.

However, Farhan believes that physical improvements will not provide maximum benefits if the sidewalk is still used for other purposes.

"If the sidewalk has been repaired but is still used for other purposes than it was intended for, the results of our hard work will not be visible," said Farhan.

He then asked the Bandung City Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Service together with the sub-district heads and village heads to immediately issue warnings to street vendors who place goods, carts, or build semi-permanent facilities on the sidewalk.

Violators were asked to dismantle their stalls themselves before being taken into custody by the authorities.

This policy was taken after a year of restructuring efforts were deemed not to have received an optimal response from some business actors.

"Tolerance has been given enough. Now it's time for us to take control and enforce the rules," Farhan emphasized.

The regulation of street vendors will be the initial step before road and sidewalk repair work is carried out by the Bandung City Water Resources and Highways Agency and the Bandung City Housing and Settlement Area Agency.

Farhan emphasized that this arrangement aims to create a more orderly urban space so that pedestrians can carry out their activities safely and comfortably.

"This is a choice we must make. We want Bandung to be more orderly, more beautiful, and more comfortable for everyone," said Farhan.
