PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Residents and traders in the Cihampelas Street area, Bandung City, support the West Java Provincial Government's plan to reorganize the Cihampelas Terrace.

This support was conveyed because the current condition of the Cihampelas Terrace is considered poorly maintained and has an impact on the smooth flow of traffic and community activities in the area.

One of Cihampelas' residents, Naufal, said he supports the arrangement, including if the government decides to demolish the existing Cihampelas Terrace building.

"I totally agree, because I find it very disturbing. Moreover, the road is getting narrower, causing traffic jams. Its function is no longer as planned. Previously, vendors had to climb up to allow traffic to flow smoothly, but now it's neglected and is being used for negative purposes," said Naufal when met on the side of Jalan Cihampelas on Wednesday (August 12, 2026).

The development plan was implemented after the Bandung City Government donated the Cihampelas Street assets to the West Java Provincial Government. The granting process was marked by the signing of the Regional Grant Agreement (NPHD) and the Minutes of Handover (BAST) at Bandung City Hall on Wednesday (July 29, 2026).

West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi said that after the administrative process is completed, the West Java Provincial Government will organize the Cihampelas area to return it to being a center for the creative industry, fashion, and shopping tourism destination.

"Teras Cihampelas has been handed over to the provincial government. We will now take administrative steps to immediately restore Cihampelas to its former glory as a center for the creative industry, a fashion center, and a popular destination for local visitors, including international tourists," said Dedi.

Meanwhile, a number of vendors remain and continue their trading activities at Teras Cihampelas. One vendor, Abdul, expressed support for the government's policy regarding the redevelopment and possible demolition of Teras Cihampelas.

However, he hopes the government will continue to provide solutions for traders who have been relying on income from this area.

"As a community, we are following the government. If demolition is the best solution, then just demolish it. However, we, the traders, are still being given solutions on how to continue selling," he said when met at Teras Cihampelas on Wednesday.

According to him, the area development is expected to not only improve the physical condition of Cihampelas, but also provide space for the sustainability of community economic activities.

Residents and traders hope that the Cihampelas Terrace development plan will have a positive impact on the area, especially in smoothing traffic, creating a more organized public space, and encouraging economic and trade activity in Cihampelas.

With this arrangement, the Cihampelas area is expected to once again become one of the centers of creative economic activity, fashion, and tourism in the city of Bandung.
