Jakarta --- The National Water Resources Council has been asked to immediately work to accelerate the realization of integrated and sustainable water management in Indonesia.

This request was conveyed by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment who also acts as Chair of the National Water Resources Council, Luhut Binsar Panjaitan in his statement, Tuesday (30/4/2024) in Jakarta.

"In the future, carrying out duties and functions must continue to be improved," said Coordinating Minister Luhut.

He said that collaboration between the government and various parties was very necessary to continue to maintain the sustainability of water resources in Indonesia. This is because the challenges and problems of world water resources are also increasingly complex.

There are many things that trigger the water problem to become the world's attention. For example, climate change whose impacts are increasingly felt and continues to expand. Then there is an increase in conflicts of interest due to the decreasing availability of accessible water both in quantity and quality.

"So the sustainability of water resources is the responsibility of all parties, not only the government but non-government elements must also synergize, collaborate and work together for the sustainability of water resources in Indonesia," said Luhut.

On this occasion, Coordinating Minister Luhut specifically asked his staff who are members of the National Water Resources Council to be involved in providing concrete solutions at the 10th World Water Forum which will be held in Bali on 18-25 May 2024.

"This is so that the forum can produce solutions to answer challenges in the water sector. "I hope that the National Water Resources Council can participate, especially in providing concrete, innovative and implementable input," concluded Coordinating Minister Luhut.

For information, the National Water Resources Council was established based on Presidential Decree No. 18 of 2024. (Kemenko Marves/TR/Elvira Inda Sari)
