PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Deputy Mayor of Bandung, Erwin, gave high appreciation to the program run by the Independent Waste Management Community (KPSM).
He conveyed this while attending waste management training and distribution of nine basic necessities (sembako) by KPSM at the Baiturrahman Mosque and Panda Park, Jalan Sukamulya, Sukagalih Village, Bandung City, Thursday (27/3/2025).
Erwin said that this program is very important in creating a cleaner and healthier environment.
He highlighted the relevance of this activity to religious values, citing the principle of annadhafatu minal iman (cleanliness is part of faith) as well as the spirit of mutual cooperation in Islam.
"I really appreciate this program because it is very much needed by the community. Cleanliness is part of faith, and I am sure those who are here are people who are missed by heaven because they have contributed to protecting the environment and helping others," said Erwin.
He also appreciated KPSM's efforts in educating the public about the importance of waste management, including through innovations such as eco-enzymes.
This fermented organic waste product can be used as a natural cleaner, disinfectant, and even medicine for various health purposes.
Erwin hopes that this program will continue to grow and become wider in scope.
He targets that by 2025 there will be 700 Waste Free Villages (KBS) in the City of Bandung.
"I hope this program can be more extensive and impactful. Our target in 2025 is to have 700 Waste-Free Villages in Bandung City. This can only be realized if all elements of society actively participate," he said.
He also appealed to the public to be more disciplined in sorting waste, especially during the month of Ramadan.
Several Temporary Disposal Sites (TPS) will be temporarily closed, so public awareness in managing waste is very necessary.
"During this fasting month, I ask that we all be more active in sorting waste. On the night of takbiran, I also appeal that there be no trading activities until midnight so that the waste can be executed immediately," he explained.
Baiturrahman Mosque as the host of this activity received special appreciation. This mosque is included in 15 mosques that received the predicate of Waste-Free Area from the Bandung City Environmental Service (DLH).
The Mosque Prosperity Council (DKM) expressed its commitment to continue supporting government programs in waste management.
They emphasized that mosques are not only places of worship, but also centers for community empowerment.
With synergy between the government, community, and society, it is hoped that the waste problem in Bandung City can be resolved soon. (Bandung City Communication and Information Service/Fauziah)
